Do I work too much? My social life is failing quite badly because of my school schedule. But my friends know I'm in university. They have mostly all attended post secondary school, everyone knows what it's like to be overworked. Is it because I work like a dog for three months then party like a rock star for one? Do they not take my education seriously? Maybe they don't remember what it was like when they were in school?
And then I remember, I'm in my thirties. My youngest close friend graduated from school this past year. Now she has a "real job". Those who went through university in times past did the traditional "live on campus" thing. Some left school because a social life seemed more important. I'm the only life-student I know except for family members.
I am in class for approximately 12 hours a week. Part-time, obviously, until you account for the fact that I'm expected to put in at least three hours (five-eight is more often recommended) outside class time for each hour of lecture. I need to put in 32-48 hours...that's full time, right?
And then term ends...oh, dear.
I am stressed out, overworked, overwrought and poor.
If you love a student, this month give that person a care package, a hug, and a promise to call in May.
Thanks.
